tranny or torque converter? Or...?

So i haven't had my 95 z28 auto that long, maybe 2 months but I noticed since I had it, it will shift a little hard most of the time from 1st to 2nd, but 3rd and 4th would be smooth as butter. One time when coming to a stop in a parking lot it kinda "stalled " a little. But then didn't happen again for a month or so until today. today it has done it a few times. I had a stick for 4 years prior to this car and I am a little nervous. I am not familiar with what the problem could be and don't want to rebuild the whole tranny if I don't need to. ( I cant really afford to). When I got home I parked it, then I shifted through all the gears in the column from park down. When It got to Drive the tac meter shot up and down maybe a little past 1 grand. Any ideas? Its my daily driver for the moment. Im hoping this wont be the beginning of the end of my transmission.

Stalling in D is a sign the lockup solenoid is possibly going bad. The 3rd gear shift is probably "south as butter" cause the 3-4 clutches are probably about to crap out on you. You can try to patch it, might buy you time, but I would save up for a quality rebuild if you plan on keeping it. How many miles on it already? You're talking about a 20 year old transmission if it's a virgin
