torque converter

Hey everyone I was thinking about getting a custom edge stall for my 95 z28. They have a pretty good price and was wondering if anybody had any opinions or reviews about their converters? I was also planning the cc503 cam in the future to go along with my mods, so stall size recommendations would be helpful. I was thinking around a 3000. Thanks.

Re: torque converter

Can't talk about Edge as I have no familiarity with them, but in the LS1 crowd with 3.73s',3600-4000 stalls seem most popular

Re: torque converter

Edge converters are cheap for a reason. They have a huge failure rate, and they're also extremely inefficient. Inefficiency means the converter never fully couples and always slips. This cost MPH and ET in a drag car. Inefficency also generates considerably more heat. Too much heat will destroy your transmission. We've seen many datalogs of Edge converters still slipping dramatically on the top end. We've also had several Edge converters cut apart and seen how bad the build quality is.

I'll have to agree, but not from personal experience but from posts/threads I've read. You get what you pay for ! If you can't afford a 'good' convertor, then save up until you can. If it's 'off the shelf' in stock somewhere, you don't want it,and if you do get it,you be changing it out(along with a possible tranny rebuild)for a good one.

You can choose to believe or not believe whatever you'd like. What I've stated about Edge converters is based on facts. I've been building transmissions professionally for 24 years now. I've owned my own shop for close to 10. My shop specializes in performance/racing 4L60Es. I'm familiar with just about every converter built. I work with a local converter shop to do my "cut and cleans", and my shop only sells Protorque converters. My "cut and clean" guy won't even tough an Edge converter, after seeing what's inside them. My shop also won't warranty a transmission if a customer has an Edge converter. I have no personal vendetta against Edge as a company, but the fact is they build crap converters. In order of reliability and performance, Protorque is number 1. That's why they're the only converter we sell. We have customers having success with Yank, Circle D, and Vigilante... However, the Vig is certainly the least reliable of the 4.

$350 shipped. For a high stall 12". This converter will give you 2500 actual stall behind a "bolt on" engine. It will stall right around 2800 behind a moderate cam.

I've been running nothing but Edge Racing converters in my car for over five years and I think the results speak for themselves. I had a 3000, 3600, and now running a 4000. Great on the street and you can see my sig for 60ft times and trap speed. Look at some of my old posts for older stuff and times.

...Which may help explain why you kept going through 4L60Es
