TH400 VSS Sensor Install ?

Well today I tried to install the VSS rotor and sensor, but ran into a few problems. I pulled out the tail shaft housing and saw this.

Do I replace the original parts with the vss rotor and sensor? Also, I slipped on the vss rotor on the tail shaft and it slides in and out with no resistance.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jody J.

You've go to get the stock speedometer stuff out of there. You're on the right track. I think the tailshaft is a little bigger where the reluctor goes, I had to heat mine in boiling water and tap it on. The speed pickup goes in right where your second picture is.

good luck!

Thanks for the reply Brady. How long did you have to boil it?

I searched deep for this!
Can anyone post follow up pics or at least detail.

my guess:

Pull the tailhousing off.
remove the speedo gear parts from the case and the drive gear from the tailshaft
install the VSS 40 tooth reluctor onto the tailshaft
install the VSS sensor through exsisting hole in case
install tail housing

is that right?
