t56 question, help please

I just pulled the engine and tranny and upon seperating the two, I noticed that the sleeve that is over the input shaft and slides into the throwout bearing was broke off flush with the tranny. I have no idea how long it has been like that and havent had any problems. Is this something I can do without or do I need to have it replaced? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Lt1? or LS1? Either way its best to have it replaced.. The t/o ride's that so it remain's straight and true.. COuld or could not cause problems'.. hard to say. but its out.. might as well do it right!

Yep thats the right part, dont know how importantit is. Hope someone on here can shed some light soon. I took the front cover off and checked it out and it appears to be pressed in front of the input shaft seal. It has no wear narks from the throwout bearing riding on it, so I dont know. It is an LT1 car if that helps.

Re: t56 question, help please

Yeah I tried pushing it back inside the tranny from the input shaft and I dont think its goes there..It didnt come from the TO bearing though so I dont have a clue. Im gonna try and locate some T-56 diagrams and see what I can find..Anyone else had this problem?

Re: t56 question, help please

Here's the answer guys: That's the input shaft collar that aligns with the inside of the throwout bearing. If you take it out, small movements in the drivetrain will cause massive amounts of wear to your throwout bearing and your input shaft. If you leave it in, but broken off, if will sometimes work great, and sometimes your clutch will simply refuse to disengage. The only appropriate answer is to replace it, but here's the bad news: It's a dealer only part that is $300+. It is the entire front piece of the tranny (that you bolt the bellhousing to). I had this happen to me!

Re: t56 question, help please

Mine does not look broken off..Looks like I should just be able to press it back in there

I dont understand paying $300 for that piece at all...

What actually holds that sleeve on the input shaft?

Re: t56 question, help please

It's actually a solid piece of metal, or at least it was on mine, that is part of the whole front metal piece on the tranny (that the bellhousing gets bolted to).
