what is the stock automatic trans for 96 Z28

 

It's called a 4L60E

Basically a 4 speed tranny, with 4th gear being overdrive. The "E" at the end stands for electronically controlled by the computer

It's just a newer, electronic version of the old(er) 4L60 / 700R4, which was basically a TH350 with 4th gear . Although, the gear ratios are different than the TH350, but it's about the same "size"/dimensions, AFAIK.
