Stock 10 Bolt Rear - Need 4.30:1 Ratio Gears For 2 Series Carrier.
I'm having a hard time finding anyone who makes 4.30 to 1 ratio ring and pinion sets for 2 series posi units for our stock 10 bolt rear ends. I can find 3.73, 4.10, and 4.56 ratio 2 series gear sets, but ...... NOT the 4.30 ratio gears.
Anyone know, or have a link to whoever has 4.30 ratio 2 series ring and pinion sets? TIA for all replies! |
Re: Stock 10 Bolt Rear - Need 4.30:1 Ratio Gears For 2 Series Carrier.
I work on our 'little' rears and have never seen a 4.30 2 series 'thick' gearset. Even 4.30 3 series gearsets are not that common.
If you're gonna use 4.30s',you're gonna have to pick up a 3 series carrier. IF you do find a 4.30 2 series gearset, let me know who from. |

To the top after .......... almost 5 years!
Anyone ever find 4.30:1 ratio "thick" gear sets for our 2 series 10 bolts? |

NO !!!
You can use a 'regular'(not thick) 4.30 gear set on a 2 series carrier with a 'ring gear spacer' but spacers are not recommended as then you have 2 mating surfaces in which one or two of the contact surfaces could shift thereby throwing out your lash setting. Why a 4.30 ? what would that accomplish that a 4.10 wouldn't ? |

How did you get a 2 series carrier with your 6 speed or was it converted from automatic ?
Richmond is the only one I know that has got a 4.56 for 2 series. |

Richmond is the only one I know that has got a 4.56 for 2 series. At that time I got a "smoking" deal on a set of 4.10 gears and an "upgraded" Torsen LSD from a "low mileage" LS1 era F-Body. Unfortunately the Torsen LSD was a 2 series carrier, and came with a "thick" 4.10 gear set. :( Thanks for the tip on the Richmond 4.56 "thick" gear set, which I also found on eBay, and several other places. :D From your experience with the 7.5/7.625" 10 bolt Torsen diffs, do you know how much more the paddle has to be ground for the 4.56 gear set, over the 4.10's??? |
Re: Stock 10 Bolt Rear - Need 4.30:1 Ratio Gears For 2 Series Carrier.
1 Attachment(s)
this is a thread with paddle ground for 4.10 3 series and 3 series carrier,2 series SHOULD be the same. For a 4.56 with a paddle,I don't know how much more grinding is required.
modifying a 'torsen' paddle-pics - LS1TECH The 4.56s' I used were with a 3 series Eaton and there I ground the gears for pin clearance. Attachment 2992 the grinding of the gears had no bad effect as it was not in the contact area. |
