Soo... The time has come for th end of my 10 Bolt

Yesterday was the first day at the track for me, and a few friends... my first run... sucked... but still made 103 Mph in the 1/4... and then my day was over... the good old 10 bolt held in for 1 run. so to make a long story short, the census was to drive it home (or at least try) for the 100 mile trek....

15 miles in the rear pretty much exploded... when engaged all you heard was griding, its on video too, i might post a link if you care to see... but thats besided the point. im deciding weather it would be worth rebuilding the (shi-tty) 10 bolt, or to just pop a 12 bolt in.

i am leaning for the 12 bolt option, but i want to firt take a listen to what others have gone with in this situation... basically more info on 12 bolts, their cost (ive seen pretty much around 2k$) i am know of their reputability, but i have also heard they take a bit more HP from the wheels, anyone know this Percentage?

i am looking at going with the moser, but am up for suggestions, does any other company even make a 12 bolt for the f bodys? anyway, thanks for listening to my rant! its a sad day for the T/A... but hopefully she'll be up and running again soon!

Re: Soo... The time has come for th end of my 10 Bolt

I just put in a Strange 12 bolt a few months ago and I went with Strange for the following reasons:

-TA mount is a bolt thu like stock where the Moser threads its bolts into the mount both top and bottom and will back out over time.
-The Strange comes fully assembled with no bearings to press on the axles
-If you order the ABS option you get cool billet caliper backing plates and don't have to use your old ones.
-33 splined axles and a HD limited slip with 800lb preload springs are standard.
-conversion U-joint comes with it
-It even has fluid already in it!

Its literally a bolt in deal for around $2500 which is about what you'd spend on the Moser. Mine works fantastic and is not noisy. The only drawback is that it took 6 weeks to get it...Moser has a faster build time, I guess. I put in in the car, broke it in for 250 miles. Drained/filled it and went 11s on the first outing..I love it...

Thats probably why im not gona stick with my 4.10s...aftermarket gears seem to break much easier than stock ones. I think ill sacrifice some et and go with 3.42s.

well 4.10's in general have "less meat" on them than other gears... i cant wait to get a new set in there.. heh.. of course im shooting for a 12 bolt... and im a little upset strange has a 6-8 week turnaround..

I see you are in Philly....Give Steve Spohn a call or check out www.Spohn.net and talk to him about the turn around time..Or call Strange directly..It may be quicker now...Its definitely worth the wait regardless...

I had all of them, moser, strange 12 bolts and a ford 9inch.
From my experiance i would go with a Moser 12 bolt. You can get the used for around 1700 or so.

I went with the fully-optioned Strange unit, and I've had no issues with it at all. As stated before it's got a lot more to it than the Moser unit, and having it come assembled and dyno tested was a good thing to me.

I turned the left side tire off, so that's why it's not spinning in the picture. It was spinning sometimes and other times, like in the pic, it wasn't.

The posi may be on it's last leg, I'll agree 100%! BUT my friend, it was still good enough to do this...and that was your good run.
