Some ???'s on Torque Converters

As some of you may have read in another thread, I got beat by my G/F's car 1 time out of 5. This, of course, is unacceptable. So I intend to take care of this problem the easiest way possible: A Torque Converter. But theres a lot of things I dont really understand about them so I've come to the experts. Please help.

1) Just how bad is daily driveability? I really dont want to feel like I have a tranny problem all the time.

2) Does it affect the top end power? All dyno charts I've seen with them, it looks like theres not as much power at the top end anymore.

3) Whats the best place to get em? I'll probably go with Yank.

4) How hard to install? Gotta be done professionally or is it possible to do yourself?

5) If a stock A4 is capable of low 13's, will a converter put me in the 12's with drag radials?

Thanks guys.

1) Just how bad is daily driveability? I really dont want to feel like I have a tranny problem all the time. It depends on what stall you choose, the rear end gear ratio, and the way you drive.

2) Does it affect the top end power? All dyno charts I've seen with them, it looks like theres not as much power at the top end anymore. If you are looking to all out top speed on the freeway, then lockup the torque converter at the top end of 4th gear for the extra mph.

3) Whats the best place to get em? I'll probably go with Yank. Edge, Midwest, Vigilante, Yank, Pro Torque.

4) How hard to install? Gotta be done professionally or is it possible to do yourself? You can do this yourself, just have someone who is familiar with this help you.

5) If a stock A4 is capable of low 13's, will a converter put me in the 12's with drag radials? The torque converter is good for 3-6 tenths, with good traction.

Ok so my gear ratio is 3.23's.

How will it drive around town?

BTW-Im looking at either the Yank 3000 or the SuperYank 3500.

Thanks again.

Well most people will tell you to go with atleast a 3500 stall, I drove a SS with 3:23's a vig 3200 (true stall is about 3600ish) with a shift kit and it drove great the only thing I really noticed was the quick- firm shifts from the shift kit, I would say around town you would be used to it after about a week. TCI has some great stalls for a good price (about $500) but if you don't really care about the $$ I would look into Yank's SS series, also you must consider the STR 2.0 to a 2.5 is what most people run on normal street cars......Edit: ditch the crapmaster exahust that is no better than the stock unit!!!...PM me if you want a new Loud Mouth exahust for a good price

Well the thing with the "flows" is a use them during the winter when I have to keep the windows up most of the time. Other than that, its wide open cutout all the time.

I would also look hard a the Vigilante...I've had my 9.5" 3600 stall lock up converter in my car for 8 years!!! no freshening, great drivability, and a best trap speed of 118.5mph..str of 2.5 also so great for daily driver..also got 5 tenths over an 11" Lingenfelter converter...check out www.converter.com
