should i attempt to rebuild my t-56?
should i attempt to rebuild my t-56?
well here's the deal. i've never cracked open a manual before. (nor an automatic) i'm very mechanicly inclined and have the space to do this, jsut not too much time. the local shops will not give me a quote to do a full rebuild until the crack the case open, and that worries me. i have about 1500.00 to spend on having someone do this, and i need it done asap. i'm the type of guy that refuses to take my vehicle anywhere to have it worked on. except tranny's and rear ends. those are the only 2 things i've never screwed with. i've lost reverse, and second, so it's time to rebuild it. i should be putting out close to 500lbft tq at the flywheel (or so i'm told) so i need a rebuild that i can beat the snot out of and not have to worry. i know this includes installing beefier parts such as shift forks and such. is this something that a competent individual should try? i would save at least 800.00 it seems....
also, what can i expect to spend on a complete overhaul usind stock components? i need to get this done before the dyno tune

Re: should i attempt to rebuild my t-56?
My friend rebuilt his with help from a friend that can work on Autos and it wasn't too difficult. there is a write up showing the parts and tools required as well as the procedure on pulling it apart and putting it together. The write up was either on here, LS1.com, ls1tech.com.
