Royal Purple Vs Mobil1 vs Red Line
Royal Purple Vs Mobil1 vs Red Line
Hello All,
Time to change the rear gear oil and my vehicle calls for 80W-90, (87 Camaro Z-28-stock rear) but I was wondering if I can put 75W-90 Synthetic and which one is the best out of the listed 3.
I called Royal Purple and spoke to tech support and they said I can run 75W-90 with no limited slip additive and I shouldn't have any problems since their oil has same included with it. I don't know about Mobil 1 and Red Line.
Any responses would be appreciated

I have heard that with a clutch type limited slip differential that you want to use conventional oil with additive, not synthetic. Maybe someone else will chime in to either confirm or deny this.

I like Redline Shockproof Heavy myself. I used it for several years in my 95 Formula with lots of 1/4 mile and roadcourse events and never had a problem out of the rear. It has the friction of a 75W90 but the film thickness of a 75W250. Also, it does not need limited slip additive (already built in) and works just fine with clutch type LSDs.
