Replacing Clutch
 

What parts do I need to replace a clutch? My friends 01' Firehawk's clutch is going out and I need to know exaclty what parts to replace and repair? I'm not familiar with manuals but would I need more than a new pressure plate, clutch and to resurface the flywheel?

Everything you and 1FASASZ said plus, clutch alignment tool, and possibly new rear main seal (that would be a great time to replace if you think it needs it.)

Just out of curiousity how many miles are on your friends '01? Sounds like he's got some work done to it, or he drives it pretty hard...or both:).



Oh, also, long extensions for your socket wrench help, and you may want to get a tool to get the metal hyd. hose out of the slave cyl. It's not neccesary, but will help.

He's got 38,000 on the odometer. A lot of hard launches on the clutch! So am I correct in saying that all I need is a new pressure plate, clutch, pilot bearing, resufraced flywheel, the tools you listed and maybe a new rear main seal?

That sounds about right!

The pressure plate and clutch disc usually come together. A pilot bearing (or bushing) can be bought at any local parts store, oh so can a clutch alignment tool. And finding a machine shop to re-surface the flywheel shouldn't be too hard (should only cost $20 or so).

Oh, get a can of brake cleaner to clean the flywheel and PP surfaces of any grease from your hands.

And lastly, if you have'nt changed the trans. fluid, now would be as good of time as any.
