Replacement driveshaft?

What is a good replacement driveshaft that won't break itself or the bank. I have a vibration I think comes from the driveshaft and from what I have read here a factory imbalance may be the problem. I have installed new u-joints. I have not tried turning the shaft 180 degrees yet and am thinking of worse case situation. I read about a recall, but the car is 15 years old. Does the recall still apply? I have read in the forums about using a 1LE shaft but don't know how available or costly they are. So I may have to buy new. My car is a 96Z28 with Hooker long tubes, manual, and 3.73

I took mine in to a driveshaft shop and had them balance mine, have you considered this? I think it was like 60 bucks, and I believe they can straighten them also.

Most people will scour the junk yards (or use our "parts wanted" and "parts for sale" forums) for a 1LE model with an aluminum DS. The vibrating DS was a major problem, and GM issued a TSB (not a "recall", and long since expired) that allowed free replacement of the stock steel DS with the 1LE aluminum DS. There are also aluminum DS's on many LS1 4th Gens. With just headers, you shouldn't have a problem with it breaking.

Moving to "Drivetrain"........

Thanks for the quick reply. It sounds like the easiest repair is to have the drive shaft balanced as ascastil suggested.

I've heard from some people that attempts to balance the stock steel driveshaft failed.
