I have tried forever to remove the rear torque arm but I cannot even budge them bolts or nuts to remove this piece. This is the only thing left besides the tranny bolts in order to remove my tranny from my car. What did you guys use when removing this part?

The U-joint on the driveshaft has two clamps that hold it on- the bolts you took out were most likely what held those on. If it's rusty they might be hard to see, but once you take those off the U-joint should be able to come off with the driveshaft. The other side moves back and forth to allow the driveline to change it's lenghth so it should come right out, possibly with some tranny fluid.

I didn't have problems breaking the bolts on the torque arm loose, but once you do, you'll have to jack up the body a little bit to get enough clearance to remove them. If I remember correctly I don't think there are any bolts holding the torque arm in in the front (remember that area is supposed to change it's length to compensate for differences in distance between the axle and the body). I think when I did my tranny swap I pushed it forward to clear the axle, then slid it out of the exhaust thingy or whatever rubber piece it was stuck into.

I took those 4 bolts out of back of the drive shaft at the u joint. there were 2 clamps for the 4 bolts. These came off with no problem. I just don't know how to remove the driveshaft now. Do I just tug on it?

 

Push the driveshaft forward into the transmission enough and the rear u joint will drop out of where it sat under the clamps.
I had to raise the car with the rear axle lowered to get the two long bolts out of the rear mount on the torque arm. For the front mouint, remove the nuts and push the bolts through to the other side and the mount will drop off. Pretty simple stuff.

 

push by hand or hit with a hammer?

same with the torque arm?

 

I was able to do it by hand as I remember. Some WD40 on the front end may help. The shaft slides in and out of the transmission output shaft as the suspension moves.

 

so you were able to push the torque arm forward by hand as well?

 

No, you don't push the torque arm forward. Remove the bolts from the rear end and move it off the differential to the side. Then remove the bolts holding the front mount to the transmission and the whole thing will drop out.
