Removing stock a4 shifter assembly, what is this hose???

I am removing my stock transmission (a4) shifter assembly from my car. I tried searching this to no avail.

There is a black tube/hose that runs from the very middle of the shifter assembly which then goes on the floorboard down by the pedals on the driverside which then goes up into the dash area and snakes back toward the steering wheel.
Does anyone have any clue what that hose is for??? I am trying to remove that assembly and this is the only thing that is keeping it in the car.

Thats the cable that prevents you from starting the car unless the shifter is in the 'park' position. It connects to the ignition switch.
