Possible to install reverse blocker backwards?
Possible to install reverse blocker backwards?
This may sound like an odd question.....
I just cracked open the T56 to repair reverse gears syncro (flopped it over to the unused side) but I am second guessing myself on my reverse gear syncro repair (T56). After buttoning everything up last night (transmission is on the car - but easy to take back out at this point if I need to), I decided to read through the T56 manual another time to review the work I did.
Everything went smoothly (or so I think!) but I have a question about the reverse gear blocker.
Would it be possible to install the reverse gear blocker ring backwards? It doesnt look like things would "fit" in line between snap rings etc if it were on wrong - but I want to be sure before I get any further putting the car back together.
After sealing the tranmission back up - I shifted through the gears on the work bench while and rotated the input shaft after each gear. I got to reverse and it engaged as expected and turned the output shaft the opposite direction I was turning the input shaft. If I had the reverse gear blocker on backwards - I wouldnt think I would get this smooth functionality.
Can someone put my doubts to rest? Is it possible to install the reverse gear blocker backwards?
I'd hate to get everything else buttoned back up - just to find I have to pull the transmission again. I can do it now much easier than later once I get everything else put back together.
When I put the reverse gear blocker back on - it only seemed to fit one way... but maybe I wasnt looking at it the right way....
Thanks in advance!

This image below shows the brass blocker ring that I'm talking about (right under reverse gear) - and this is what my transmission looked like. If I remember correctly, the "flat" side of the ring with teeth ended up being on the sycro side, while the "cupped" side of the blocker ring ended up being on the reverse gear side. The image in the T56 repair manual doesnt seem very clear about the assembly of this piece.

Again, reverse gear "works" on the bench - but I'm nervous about once I actually put it in gear behind an actual running engine and put some load on it.... so I'm second guessing myself about the reverse gear blocker. I doubt everything else would "fit" if the blocker were installed backwards - but I'm not certain.

Took it apart again - it was installed correctly. Looking at it again, it was a no brainer how it goes in there - so there really wasnt any risk..... but thats what I get for psyching myself out.
Oh well, now I can sleep without worrying about it
I'm getting really good at the F-body transmission removal now..... (I had to take it apart previously after putting it back together because the clutch fork wouldnt stay on - fixed that, and then decided to take it apart again to double check my work on reverse :lol2: )
Just waiting for my headers and GM parts shipment to show up (so I can mount my exhaust etc) and I'm good to go.... hopefully Kooks doesnt take too long to ship em =/
