Pinion Yoke Weights
Pinion Yoke Weights
I need to know what the pinion yoke weights do and when they are put on during manufacturing. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why some 7.5 ten bolts get pinion weights and others don't.
Do they neutral balance the pinion yoke itself? Or do they balance the pinion/yoke assembly?
Are the weights added after the rear is assembled?
Are they added based on pinion run out, or are they actually spun balanced and added then?
I am having vibration issues and am pretty sure it is from the pinion area.

The 4.10's I got from a 95 S10 pickup had a weighted pinion yoke. The yoke I am using has no weight on it. I want to use the S10 yoke but don't know how to find where the weight is suposed to go in relation to the pinion.
Anybody have any ideas?

Just incase you're interested...
From Kevin at Randy's Ring&Pinion;
Some yokes you find are balanced by adding weights; some are balanced by removing material. Most all yokes are checked for balance in the manufacturing process. The weld on weights are more uncommon. You typically see material removed to balance it. If it doesn’t have either, the balance was within specs.
The balance is just for the yoke itself. The pinion cannot vibrate at all once it is installed.
Hope this helps,
Kevin
