I am installing 4.10, The pinion bearing was pressed, crush sleve in, all new bearings/race , there is still play after tighten nut w/ washer.
Not sure what to do/look for I did use the stock shim

There should be some play depending on the amount of backlash. If you still have play front to rear you haven't crushed the sleeve yet.

ya the play is from front to rear, i used a impact gun but didnt go to crazy, from what i read its bad to over tighten the nut.
Does it matter which way the crush sleeve goes on?
that is why it is called a crush sleeve
you need to keep tightening the pinion nut until you reach your pinion bearing pre-load, new bearings 25 inch pounds of rotating force, use a inch pound beam style torque wrench
you need a quality 1/2 impact gun and a little gear lube on the threads helps too
if you go past the desired pinion bearing pre-load, you will need to start over with a new crush sleeve, they are a 1 time use only

it is a very easy set up procedure to use a crush sleeve, and if you can not get the crush sleeve to work out you can use a solid pinion spacer (i use these on all high hp cars/trucks)
