just like the title says, i shifted into 2nd and the whole shifter fell. i look under the car, and the whole tranny is much lower. i think i broke the crossmember that its bolted to or at least ripped one side off the car

hopefully 2 of the 3 bolts worked their way out, and you only ripped one bolt out Otherwise that sucks. You would have to either retap them, or maybe cut that whole patch out and weld in a fresh piece of metal and tap that.
