If that is your mindset, you might want to invest in a DS loop. It would suck to have wild broken DS flopping around, taking out brake and fuel lines.

Woa there. It's not as easy as just putting it in. There's machine work to the tailhousing to be done for the larger bushing & seal, Abrasive cut off saw about 5/8 to 3/4 inch off the Viper shaft, Install 11 tooth reluctor and reprogram the PCM to match. If you've never worked on trannies before or have no knoiwledge of machining, this isn't a good DIY project. I hope I'm not offending you, just want to make sure you know what your getting into. Do a search on T56 Upgrade and you'll probably find some of my old posts describing the parts and process in a little more detail.

SABLT194,

Do you know if the Billet yoke from Dennys nitrous ready driveshafts is as good as the Chrysler yoke you mentioned?
Or will it work with the Viper out put shaft?

Im going to do that. The LS1 shaft I twisted in two was a mess. It was at the dyno, and luckely nobody got hurt when parts flew. The only damage to the car was to the bracket that holds the parking brake cable. Now the brake is tight, and wont completely release, lol. Oh well they'll wear out, and who needs rear breaks anyway

My Stage III did not like 758ft-lbs at the tires (on the spray) and it decided to let loose on me (just slipped, did not break or anything). If you are planning on a lot of HP like you said, go with something more than a stage III. Maybe a stage IV or V, or a Street Twin.

Definatly get a steel DS. I have my Denny's Nitrous Ready sitting in the garage waiting on the next car!

NO NO NO. I will not be doing any of the tranny work. My dad has a friend who owns his own shop and builds race cars for a living. He will be doing most of my work. Very very good work might I add. That is not the point though. Your right, i do not have a lot of knowlage about trans work. I know the basic upgrades you can do and the T56 will need it later on. I figured I might as well do it while I'm doing the rest of my drivetrain.

I'll do a search. Thanks for all the help you have already posted. One quick question... without the viper output, the way i have it setup int he origional post... is that good for around 500, 600hp? I'm not planning on doing any crazy launches on slicks anyways.

The standard GM 27 spline slip yoke will not fit on the 31 spline Viper shaft. The nice thing about the larger output shaft is that you don't need a billet heat treated yoke. A good ole Spicer forged Chrysler slip yoke carries the load just fine. You will have to change your DS length though. BTW, I used a 27 spline GM billet yoke from Denny early on in my trials. What I found was the internal splines in the billet yoke were a shade big and that extra clearance allowed the yoke to wobble a bit at highway speeds. This added to my drivetrain vibration problems. I'm not saying they're all like that. Denny is a top notch guy and he really stands behind his products. He later checked the ones he had in stock and returned them to his supplier. Also, The billet 27 spline yoke will certainly fix the problem of yielding the splines in the slip yoke, but If you're to the point of yielding splines, You're gonna prang the output shaft sooner or later. It's just a matter of time. Bigger is better!

also

If your not running slicks and dumping the clutch hard 500 to 600 hp should be no problem. Heck, you probably wouldn't have a problem with the stock shaft if your not drag racing it. I had problems because I run slicks, have a heavy car (3660#), use a Street Twin clutch (very agressive), have a heavy flywheel (lots of rotating mass) let the clutch fly at 5000 RPM, And, I do this 10 passes every weekend from May to October. The instantaneous torque loads generated on the T56 during my launches have to be insane. Normal engine torque of 450 ft-lbs or so should not be a problem. Heck, the tires are going to break loose and fry before the trany give up

Re: My search for a "Bulletproof" Drivetrain has left me with this...

I now officially hate 12 bolts....had 2 now. Both started DEAD quiet, after few quick races FROM A ROLL they both started to make noise. NOT horrible noise but enough to drive me wild for spending 2K on a 12 bolt and have it whinne like a pos 10 bolt. I am really picky about the rear whinne, so i am sure the noise i am hearing wont bother 95% of you out there. BUT DAMN 2k and it still makes damn noise..i cant deal with that
One was Moser and now Strange. Can some one explain to me WHY THE HELL do they make noise after few hard shifts?????!!??! I can put a stock GM 3.42 rear end and it wont make any noise untill it just SNAPS out of nowhere. Why cant 12bolts be quieT!!! god i hate this ****....look for my 12 bolt to be for sale again, i think i am just going to buy stock 3.42 rear ends and kill them one by one.
