Motive "white box" gears? Good for street use? Quiet?

Anyone have any experience with Motive's "white box" gears? Are they a true street gear that's quiet when properly set-up? These will be gears going in a 8.8" hybrid Fbody rearend.

Please chime in!

Motive makes 2 different lines of gears. I'm not sure what box they come in but if you choose to buy motive make sure that it is the american made line not the cheap over seas made gear.

Personally motive sucks. Every rear end that I have built with a motive gear has had a good amount of gear noise even with the proper break in period. I would go with a precision gear or richmond.

I beg to differ.Maybe it's the installer's fault? I just had my 3.73 Motive gears professionally installed w/ a solid pinion spacer. SILENT, NO GEAR WHINE. None when coasting, none when accelerating, none when decelerating...

I had Motive's installed and had problems. 30 days after installation, they were coming apart. After talking to my installer, they decided to give me replacement gears.

I got Strang Pro-Streets and they've been great.

It's all about the install, rumor says that Richmonds are very noisy, majority of us have said motive has been quiet

Did the same person install both gearsets? I don't mean from the same "shop", I mean the actual installer. I find it hard to believe that a shop would willingly pay for someone's gearset outta their own pocket, especially if they felt it wasn't their fault, not to mention that no shop I know honors any warranty on parts being installed on "hot rods" or "abusive drivers". I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just stating an observation...

Re: Motive "white box" gears? Good for street use? Quiet?

I was just describing MY experience with motive gears. I am a professional installer(ASE cert.) so I know hwat it takes to build a rear end.

I have had a set of richmond gears in one of my vehciles and have never had a problem.

Once again if the install is professional and accurate, all other noises should go to the design and break in period of the gears themselves.

For me the Richmonds were noisy. The Motives make so little noise its hardly worth mentioning. These are my results, yours may vary.

I mostly use Precision Gear, but we have started to switch over to Motive on our race car stuff just because their heat treating process is much better, there is much less variance in hardness over the R&P than on other manufacturers.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood.

It was the same shop and same actual person who installed both gearsets.

MOTIVE agreed to replace the gearset, not the shop. Motive talked to the installer and within 30 minutes called and told me that they were replacing my gearset, so Thunder got a credit, and I paid the difference for the Strange gears.

So, the "white box" gears that show up on ebay, are these imported gears? Why don't they get a "Motive" label?
