Manual having trouble shifting

Hello All,

I am a newbie to the board, so excuse any ignorance on my part...

I drive a 97 z28 m6, last night i drove out of my parking spot without a problem in reverse, then after driving for some time parked and when i tried to engage into reverse the shifter does not want to easily go past the 5/6th grear area, i have to push it with both hands to go all the way to the right then it goes up into reverse fine, but to get it past 5/6th it is very very hard. Any thoughts/ideas? anything obvious?

Thank you all for your help and insight!

Re: Manual having trouble shifting

Don't know if this is your problem, but on LS1's the ENG SEN fuse controls the reverse lockout solenoid, when blown makes it hard to shift into reverse. Something easy to check - and welcome to the board.

It's been several years since a friend of mine had a similar issue but if you have a Skip-shift Eliminator installed make sure it didn't fry. I can't really remember if it locked him out of reverse but it sounds familiar.

2001NBMZ28: You are 100% correct, appears my Engine sensor fuse was blown, i tried putting in a new fuse, and it fixed the problem, but it blew after driving a bit... I also noticed when i drive in the hot for a bit, i start to smell burnt rubber smell in the cabin... and today the power locks stopped working... getting worried... what does the engine sensor do? where is it located?

RealZ28: I do have the skip-shift eliminator too... hmm...

Thank you both for your quick responses!

Re: Manual having trouble shifting

You'll have to check everything on the ENG SEN circuit. Look for burnt wires on your 02's if it's one of them. Owners manual should tell you whats on it - on LS1 that fuse circuit contains MAF, 02's, skip shift, reverse lockout and brake switch - yours may be different.
