Re: Line lock

I mean can you use the line lock off the line at the dragstrip rather than holding your foot on the brake to take off?

Re: Line lock

You can do that. It's better than using the pedal, because the rear brakes aren't engaged so you're not wearing them out.

Re: Line lock

Would it hold stronger than you could with your foot?

No. You push the pedal down as hard as you can and then engage the line lock -- it holds it right there until you release it. So in effect, it is exactly as strong as your foot.

Re: Line lock

Line locks suck for leaving off the line. Foot braking is a better way to go. With the line lock, if you have sticky tires on the back at all it will push right through the brakes. Foot braking you have pressure on the back calipers helping to keep them still. Without this you can start turning the tires over pretty easy.

OK, but how do you foot-brake with a M6 car where line-locks are most prevelent?

Is your 3rd leg that big and powerful where you can use it to hold the brake while your 2 real feet operate the gas and feather the clutch?

haha That reply was based around the fact that he has an A4.

...and lets leave my 3rd member out of this.

But you have an M6, so get a line lock.

Re: Line lock

First yellow:

Right foot: Heel on the brake pedal, toe on the gas.
Left foot: On the clutch

Last yellow:

Right foot: Slip right foot off of the brake and put your foot through the floor.
Left foot: Side step.

Green:

Hang on and hope your drivetrain can handle it.

Except you'll have less resistance to the forward motion and (if applying the same throttle as before) you may push right through the beams.

But yeah, line locks are commonly used by M6 drivers to keep them from rolling. But you won't be able to use them with an A4 car as if they were a transbrake.

Re: Line lock

You could get two line lock kits and install one on the rear brakes, and then wire in a custom switch so that you could lock just the fronts or all four. There'd be some custom work involved, but I don't think it would be too bad.

Then you wouldn't lose any braking power over a footbrake, and you'd still save on rear brake wear in the burnout box.

Just a thought.
