Just installed my Moser 12 bolt - Here's my thoughts...

First off, why dosen't Moser include the 3/8 nuts and washers for the T-bolts that are used for the brake brackets? It says right on the install sheet that you need to buy them! WHY???? They give you everything else.

The install was easy, the only mod I had to do was shorten my torque arm bracket by an 1/8" so the bolt holes would line up and trim a corner off the bottom side. Torque arm is a Randam tech. unit.

The driveshaft is a TPIS 3 1/5" unit. After the install of the shaft, this left me with 3/4" of play at the tranny which is good. You want to be at least 3/4 to 1", so I'm good there.

Oh, just remembered. The other mod was I had to add washers to extend the calibers out I little bit so as to center the caliber to the rotor. After driving the car a couple of days now, I need to add another washer for a total of 2 per bolt because the bake pad is still draging on the rotor.

Well, there you have it, that's how my install went.

P.S. the 1/8" shims did come with the axles.

All I can say is, I paid $30. above cost for thr whole setup. I did all the work myself.

As for driving it, with the 4.10's as per my 3.73's which I had before. It feels like the car lost 400-500 pounds, in terms of Accelerating.

If I would have stayed with the 3.73's I might have had a loss, but I wouldn't have expected a lot. The moser weighs about 30 lbs more than the 10 bolt plus like you said the extra parasaitic loss.

It would have been cool just to have the 3.73's to really see how much loss there really would have been.

I will be needing a new rear end sooner than I would like. I'm looking at the Moser, and the Strange 12 bolts, and I figured I will go with 4.10's in whichever one I get. Did you consider the Strange? If so, why did you go with the Moser? Also, what kind of diff are you running in it? Thanks for any input.

As far as I'm concerned, Moser and Strange are like Chevy and Ford. Both have strong and weak points, both have there fair share of quality issues. And at the same time, both are strong units. You can't go wrong with either one.

With Strange, you have to send them your brake mount brackets to get a true ready to install unit and it takes about a month to get it. So, you will be without a drivable car.

With Moser, it takes 7-10 business days till you get the rear. The rear does not have the axles installed into the rear. The reason is, you still need to remove the brake mount brackets off the old rear. Then the bearings need to be pressed down into the axle. Don't even think to try to hammer them in. The force that is required to seat them with a hammer will be enough to damage the bearing and the axle.

Once the bearings and axles are ready, slide them in and bolt it up. The ring and pinion are already set and installed.

I choose the Moser for its quick delivery and quality. Ford and Chevy guys will say the same thing. You can get into a pissing contest with it. They both break at various times too.

I ordered my Moser with 33 splines which automatically comes with the heavy duty Eaton posi with 800 pound springs vs. 400 pounds and a 10 year warranty. The Strange has I think 3-4 year warranty.

Well there you have my take.

Re: Just installed my Moser 12 bolt - Here's my thoughts...

I just installed a Strange 12 bolt and it was a truely bolt in deal. If you have an LT1 and order the 3 channel ABS option you get LT1 caliper backing plates (which look killer) already installed, so no need to remove your old ones. You have to send your plates to them if you have an LS1 (I think). The other plus is the stock style bolt thru TA mount which required no machining at all for my Spohn TA to fit. I have heard horror stories about the TA bolts backing out of the mounts on the Moser. Some even recommend "tacking" the bolt heads to the mounts to prevent this. The Strange also comes standard with 33 splined axles and an 800lb spring Eaton posi.

The biggest draw back is the time to get the rear. I waited almost 8 weeks , but I'm very happy with the finished product. Both are good choices, but for the money, which is about the same, I went with the Strange for the ease of installation and the TA mount.

I just finished painting my Strange 12 bolt. The only thing that scares me is the ABS sensor wire -- it's just 2 wires white and black. Is this how yours came? And did you have any ABS problems after the install?

Re: Just installed my Moser 12 bolt - Here's my thoughts...

I have seen a Strange 12 bolt and a Moser 12 bolt. I feel the Strange unit if a better bolt-in.

Reason...some of you guys might have have this issue...

I run a Spohn TA and I will have issues with the bolts working their way out. I have a couple of solutions for it...but unless you resolve it...you will have this problem.
