How to drop trans w/o dropping motor??
I am trying to drop my trans (4L60E) in my 1995 Formula without dropping the motor and subframe. I can not reach the top trans bolts at the back of the motor. I have pulled the plastic cowl molding and still cannot reach the bolts on top. Any way to do this?

Often times I find I have to get those top bolts from under the car...really long extensions help greatly in this regard. I haven't yet attempted the job in a 4th gen F-body, but I have on Jeeps, Explorers, and my Dad's Stingray. Usually I'll end up using 3-4 feet of extensions and a breaker bar.
And when you finally get it out, take a big hammer and beat the crap out of the trans tunnel on each side, where those top two bolts are, to form a small pocket. That will make it easier the next time

I found with poly motor mounts the middle bolt on the driver's side turned into a REAL ***** to get out. It was bad before the mounts, but now it's just worse. Position of the engine must have shifted and it would help to have a little bit of pounded room IMO (as long as it's done in a clean manner) to get more than a 1/8" turn of a wrench in there lol. It also makes it very difficult to get the bolt out as it tends to hit the body at a rough angle when it's all the way backed out.
