Leaky trans pan gasket?

I dunno about you guys but I've been having a little hell with my automatic pan gasket.....around 80,xxx I decided I needed to change the tranny fluid/filter....so I did, went with the autozone filter/gasket kit(prob wix) with a cork gasket, used silicone and sure enough, week or so, leaking. Then I dropped the pan again and used no additivies to the cork gasket, seemed to work well, from 80,000 to 115,000 - but now its leaking again, and I hate leaks. All of these times, I torqued the bolts to spec, went over them all evenly and pulled them up slowly and evenly.

I was thinking, noticed the first time I took the pan off, it had a black, rubber gasket, if I remember right, not 100% sure this was a couple years ago, is that gasket available now? Anyone have any trouble with this?

Re: Leaky trans pan gasket?

We NEVER use cork gaskets on our rebuilds. We use Farpak, or Durapreme. For some reason, these gaskets are hard to get for the general public. Check with your local transmission shop. If you don't have any luck there, I can give you a part number, and where to order it from.

Re: Leaky trans pan gasket?

awsome pan gasket.......just tried the pioneer brand gasket, not the usual cork material, but its not really rubber, its like a dense black rubber is the only way to describe it, about 2x as thick as stock rubber one, feels about 100% better than my last two cork attempts after torquing, that + some medium str. loctite should do the trick......
