How are aluminum flywheels fro street cars

My car is a daily driver im planning on getting into autocrossing with and was curious how they are on the street and if there are any special clutch materials you need to use with the aluminum flywheel or cannot use... I was thinking of the fidanza flywheel, anyone know anything about it and have any suggestions on a clutch to use with it like a star spec 2 or 3 or what?

I got a spec stage III and i'm going to purchase an aluminum flywheel this friday i heard they do just fine together and your spose to be able to get quicker revs because of the flywheel being 15 or so lbs lighter, so i hear. we'll see.

You will lose low end grunt and it will pick up at 2500-3500RPMs depending on how light it is, not very nice for daily driving if you aren't racing around in your top end.

i got the SLP 13 lb flywheel and their clutch setup in a 94Z

it revs up faster than before, and the revs drop more on braking too, but not a big problem even in my daily driver. i also autox and think it helps there.

the only thing i found is it's a little harder to launch at the track or from a stop. not way hard but just have to let it slip a bit more, then w/ the 3.73s i get more wheelspin too if i get on it, so it's just harder than the smoother launch with the heavier stock flywheel. actually, i kinda want my stock flywheel back

I had the (OLD) SPEC stage 3 carbon and Fidenza Aluminum Flywheel in my car before i switched to the TH400, I loved it Rev'd much quicker and felt nice, put 8k mileage on it before i did this swap.

went 12.82 in a full weight car with bolt-ons, on a stock tune car trapped 108.5x.....so do the math if its worth it..all that on a crappy 1.92 60'

doesnt seem I lost much low end "grunt"

It doesn't make launching any worse. It is great for daily driving. The clutch engages so much quicker so it is easier to pull away from dead stops on hills and stuff. I am not sure what anyone is talking about when they say they are loosing low end and if this was a problem launching it 200rpm higher would fix it. I think what is happening is the clutch is engaging so much quicker and people aren't used to it and then the car kind of bogs. You will get better 60' times with an aluminum flywheel.

actually my SLP clutch/flywheel does not engage as gradually as the stock setup

but i got the flywheel used and it was shaved 0.02"
so that might be where the problem is. it's not major or anything, just not as smooth a transition to full grab as the stock setup. it's a small difference, pedal height and pressure is the same
