help me find out my rearend question

i ordered a moser 9" and they ask about 47 or 53 tooth for the c clip (something) a buddy told me it was to read the ABS sensor. How could i find out what i have without getting into the rearend? Is there a code?

Also since i don't know the design of the 9" all that well i asked what would it matter if the whole unit was going to be new and they said it had something to do with the sensor so....?

Well on your car you have a reluctor ring on each axle which you will have to take off along with your brake mounting plates and press them on the new axles.

Unless you bought a set with your 9" I think they are 75 bucks

Well double check to be sure they are pressing on what you can use! Are they pressing the reluctor rings on to each axle (which is what you want since you have ABS and TCS) or pressing a reluctor ring on to the ring gear (which is for ABS only).

9" cannot use an external reluctor ring on the ring gear.

sorry to get off subject a lil but while there are informitive people answering here. Does the axle hub come off of the axle shaft on our cars? I hit a curb a week ago and bent my rim. i just replaced the rim yesterday and it wobbles a little, way less but still a little. Well i think i bent the hub as well as the rim. i really dont want to have to go to all the trouble of pulling the cover of the diff. and removing the c-clips and spending the money on the rearend lube *** well as the part. I just got new gears , and just changed the lube, so i dont want to have to spend the money on the lube and additive if not needed.

Re: help me find out my rearend question

I would like to know a bit more about this reluctor ring thing.. i want to install an aftermarket traction control and i am interested in knowing exactly what i would need to make it work.. i need the wheel speed sensors for the abs to connect to...
I can use the 3 channel but its a lot more accurate with the 4 channel.

LMK

Thanks

Re: help me find out my rearend question

Stock on our cars the three channel is ABS only and the reluctor ring is on the ring gear in the differential and the sensor mounts on the differential. Stock with ABS and Traction Control has a reluctor ring on each axle (between the caliper mounting bracket and the hub), and a sensor mounted on each caliper mounting bracket. The other big difference is ABS only has one brake line to the rear which provides fluid to both rear brake calipers. With Traction Control there are two brake lines coming from the Traction Control unit, one for each wheel. And then there's the EBCM the computer that controls all this and the accelerator cable adjuster motor. That's the big picture but if you are using an aftermarket traction contro system I would expect they would have some thoughts on what's needed with their system. I suspect the aftermarket system you are considering is only using ignition rather than braking to reduce power if the rear wheels are spinning faster than the front wheels so the 3 channel would work.

Re: help me find out my rearend question

My trac control unit simply cuts injector pulses to 0.

so it creates a missfire.. it will know the firing order and it will know which cylinders it will cut.. its user selectable the ammount of slippage.

the 3 channels work, but the 4 channel is a lot more accurate, hence why the factory uses it..

the point is that when you are skidding, or slipping, both tires do not turn exactly at the same speed all of the times.
