Guys with th400 w/ reverse manual valve body
 

How is it on the street? Went from m6 to th400 but haven't got it running yet, and just want to know what to expect. Heard that you can't down shift until at full stop other wise the lack of engine braking will cause it to blow. And another question tci claims on their website that using teflon tape on cooler fittings will cause the case to crack, any truth to this?

As far as downshifting, you can always downshift under power. That's probably the best way to do it. It's pretty damn noisy on the street without an OD, but with 3.42's, it's tolerable. Reminds me of the 60's. I don't know about the Teflon tape, but why take a chance?

Sorry, don't understand the "under power" part or the noise. Is their any internal racket such as with a trans brake? Could you elaborate. thanks

I have a reverse pattern valve body in a t-400 with a transbrake and a 3800 stall in my buick and its not streetable at all, it has terrible street manners

Under power means that you don't shift under lift throttle (coasting) but shift once you apply power, which is what an "automatic automaitc" does until the speed drops real low anyway. The transbrake is not used on the street. There would be no point.

I wouldn't want to drive a lot in heavy traffic with the 4,200 stall in my car but it's nothing that can't be enjoyed in light traffic or cruising around., The biggest issue is the lack of OD for high speed cruising and the noise that results from the revs. And that's with 3.42's.

i have one in my car and i drive it all the time on the street it was actually my daily driver for alittle while

I know its not needed on the street but it would be hard to get the 1.40 60' and mid 9 sec pass the buick gets without it at the track. And I still would hate to drive it regularly on the street.

You can "downshift" under coast down, but it won't do you any good... there is no "engine braking" with the manual valve body. That is the hardest part to get used to when moving from the M6 to the TH400. It won't "blow" when you downshift. I like driving it on the street..... gives you something to shift.... minimizing M6 withdrawal stress.... :)
