Gears and odometer

Hey, Since i bought my car in 2003 there was Richmond gears already in the rear end but the speedometer was never corrected for the gear ratio change...does that mean my car thinks its racking up more miles then it really is because the average speed always reads like 10mph faster?

oh yeah, my first post btw Hi :D

If the gears are a different ratio from stock, you are correct, and welcome to the board.

I'll assume your car came with 3.23's, and now has 3.73's? Given that, the speedo will be reading ~15.5% too high:
(3.73 - 3.23) / 3.23 = .155 x 100% = 15.5% ;)

So at 60 mph, the speedo would read, ~69 mph (almost 10 mph higher, like you said :)). And YES, the odometer now believes it has 15% more mileage on the car too .

..... you MIGHT wanna get that fixed?!?

holy crap! i kinda figured since my car has a lot more miles on it then i can account for...lol , this makes me wonder now...the guy i bought the car from in 2003 with 92k on it...said the previous owner installed gears in the rear end...so that makes 2 dummies/lazies to drive this car with out correcting the speedometer. I wonder how many actual miles are on the motor/car if it reads like 135k on it...im willing to bet it has no more then 100k which makes me sorta happy.

What can be done to correct my speedometer so it reads more accurately?

Get it tuned to the correct ratio. There's a couple different vendors on this site that can do it.
