gear or stall 1st?
What does everyone think I should do 1st? Get a gear (im getting a 3:73) or get a stall?

Re: gear or stall 1st?
You will get differing opinions on this but I would do the gears first and the stall later. (both together would be best)
I put gears in and did a stall later and the car was alot of fun with the 3.73s in it. |
Re: gear or stall 1st?
if you have 2.73's now get gears first. If you have 3.23's now get the converter.

Re: gear or stall 1st?
if you have 2.73 gears and get a really high stall your tranny will have excessive heat buildup (better have a really good tranny cooler)

Re: gear or stall 1st?
I have heard that if I have a stock 2:73 that I will have to get a new carrier...is this right?

Re: gear or stall 1st?
If you have 2.73 gears like I had yes you need a new carrier or you can buy gears for a 2 series carrier. And think you can use some kind of spacer also.
What I did was buy 3.42 gears and carrier off super low mileage 2002 car.The ring gear was still attached to the carrier.Install went well but still had it professionally installed.Car is night and day difference in fun factor and acceleration. It can get scary fast with traction control off.!! I have to agree if you have these pathetic 2.73s then likely get gears first although there are people that kept the 2.73 and were pretty happy with a nice stall. I can't wait till I get a nice stall now as sure the car will be a little animal with the 3.42 and say a 2800 or 3000 stall. |
Re: gear or stall 1st?
Gears first. It depends on how high of a stall you're planning, but too high with stock 2.73 will give you a really choppy ride.
