Droping the 4l60E

Ive heard way to many horror stories so i figured i would ask the guys who would give it to me straight. My stock tranny in a 94z is done asked a lot of stupid questions and got a few smart a$$ remarks, but thats the way it goes but now its time ive got a built tranny and im a little intimidated by the whole aspect of droping the old and puting in the new on my on.How bad is it?Everyone I know says it sucks, but im tired of seeing the car sit.Im sure most of you know how it goes everyone talks a good game about helping but when its time they bs and im tired of waiting.Sorry for the essay but im gonna do it solo. What do i need to be attentive to what are a lot of probs with the instal and what sensors and other elusive bolts should i be wary of.I've got that book for the "SELF MECHANIC" but it reads like jappenese to some one inexperinced as me.I'm not dumb(lil slow) but not dumb just need a point in the right direction and some overview to get me going. Thanks guys i would really appreciate it.

Cool Re: Droping the 4l60E

It's not hard at all, and very straight forward. The bolts you see are the bolts you take out. That's about it. Some things you are going to need are very long extensions (like 2 feet), and a swivel socket. Impact gun helps. Other then that, just make sure you have it jacked up when you take it off. Also, make sure the back of the engine is jacked up when you take off the trans, it will want to rotate backwards.

Re: Droping the 4l60E

I have done it many times and the last time where I was helping a buddy that was not very technically minded, I was pretty much saying unbolt that one then this then that and so forth itonly took 2.5 hours, I can get one out myself in about 1.5 - 2 hrs depending on bolts and if any issues come up.

Javier has a great writeup on the Torque Converter install just follow those steps, but get the car high enough to get the tranny out from under the car...
