At low end my Z gets a good pull, but not at the high end. I miss my 3:23, specially when I overtake at 60 and up.

I thought 373 would give you a good pull in every gear, even on the freeway??

You might go faster with 273 but 373 would get you to your destination quicker, right??

If you want good pull up top and better acceleration down low I'd recommend 3.42's. Unfortunately you probably won't see much of a performance increase if your going from 3.23's. They will give you a little extra in both areas though. Your gas mileage probably won't change much either, if at all. With your current gears though I'd recommend a different mod. I'd say get a good stall converter. The cost will be about the same and you'll get a lot better times out of your car without hurting your top end at all. Since you already have a shift kit it would be an easy install and I bet you'd be very very happy. I'd guess you'd have a good flash when passing apon stomping the gas pedal too. It will wake your car up like no other. Definately get a tranny cooler though. JMO

3.73 would give you higher pull up top as apposed to 3.42's would. They give you more pull in all gears. But the 3.73's would hurt your top speed some compared to the 3.42's. For instance if you had the same car with 4.10's and the same car with 3.42's side by side and both cars punched it the car with the 4.10's would pull from the car with 3.42's. The car with the 3.42 would be able to go to a higher top speed though as long as the wind resistance wasn't a factor.

I've got a question about shift points. With my 2.73's, I shift from 1st-2nd at 45mph and 2nd-3rd, 90mph... haven't gone further lol. If I went to 3.73's, how much of a change would I see in shift points? Big drop in gas mileage also?

I too am switching to 3.73s (just got them today!!) and was curious about the shift points as well. I used this site to figure the following out based on the car's redline.

with 2.73's
1st gear
5700 rpm 52 mph

2nd gear
3000 rpm 52 mph
5700 rpm 98 mph

3rd gear
3500 rpm 98 mph
5700 rpm 159 mph

4th gear
4000 rpm 159 mph
5700 rpm 228 mph (I hit 228 mph once, really!)

with 3.73's
1st gear
5700 rpm 38 mph

2nd gear
3000 rpm 38 mph
5700 rpm 72 mph

3rd gear
3500 rpm 72 mph
5700 rpm 117 mph

4th gear
4000 rpm 117 mph
5700 rpm 167 mph

these should basically be close to the shift points of the 2.73 A4 car vs a 3.73 A4 car.

Those numbers look a little off for the 373.

well I used the one calculator off the f-body.org site. I don't know how accurate it is but you can try for yourself here:

You might want to check out this Excel spreadsheet that I made.

Gears mainly help in 1st gear. You can see why from the charts in the Excel file. They help VERY little at higher speeds, as you can see from the chart.

I charted rwtq vs. speed. This is for a stock LT1, going WOT, shifting at redline(5700 rpm).
