How do you get the clutch fork to engage after you've already bolted the tranny to the block? I forgot to connect it and everything slid in perfectly so I didn't even think about it. Well I have everything back in and when I went to push in the clutch pedal it was "mushy". So I took off the slave cylinder to inspect it and noticed that the clutch fork has alot of play in it and I can't push it in at all. I can however pull it out and also wiggle it around some. I've tried prying it onto the throwout bearing and even spun the engine a couple of times... How do I get it back on?? Please don't tell me I need to drop everything again.. It was already a bitch doing it by myself with a 2-ton floor jack out in a gravel driveway... I don't wanna have to do that again. Thanks.

Btw this is just a replacement clutch assembly from Advanced Auto Parts for the Lt1. I'm certain that the throwout bearing was round and not square like other people have had problems with. Also, I did inspect the clutch fork while everythign was apart and it wasn't bent or anything. Thanks

With my Spec IV the throwout bearing looked round, but wasnt perfectly round, so i had to turn the engine over a little bit until it would line up.

Just keep turning the engine and trying to push the fork up in, when it is correct it will kinda of "snap" right up in and will have a solid feel to it. When it is in correctly there should be about enough room for your finger inbetween the end of the fork and the housing, and the end of the fork should be an inch or so away from the front of the housing, if you understand what im saying.

I would try turning over the engine and if that and everything else you can think of dosent work pull the tranny

Keep trying and good luck

Ok, so I ended up having to take it all apart again and slid in the clutch fork.. not that hard this time just time consuming... Now I have ANOTHER PROBLEM.

I also had to purchase a new slave cylinder, I couldn't afford one from the stealership so I bought a replacement from Advanced Auto. Well this POS won't hold pressure for ****... I've bled it like 100 times and the pedal is still smushy. I just heard like a loud pop when I was inside pushing on the pedal and then I took back off the slave cylinder and brake fluid ran all over, so I checked that plastic boot for rips or anything, there wasn't any and then filled back up the resivoir, pumped on the pedal a few times and bolted it all back up. Still was mushy. WTF? Do I need a new slave cylnder again? Or am I just not bleeding this stupid thing properly?? Thanks

Yeah your slave is shot.

Are you bolting the slave to the tranny before you start pushing on the clutch?

My slave bled really easy, just bled it, bolted it to the tranny, and it worked.

Yep, faulty slave cylinder even though it was brand-new. The new one came in today. I hooked it up, bled it a few times, bolted it to the tranny, got inside, pressed down in the clutch and everything works perfect! Thanks for all the help.
