clutch problems

Hello I am having a problem with my clutch disengaging. If i start the car in neutral it will not shift into any gear. If i start it in 1st it will behave normally but if i ever shift it out of 1st i am unable to get it back into any gear. We just pulled the motor out and left the slave cylinder hanging for a few days. The slave cylinder now has about an inch to an inch and a quarter of travel. I tried bleeding it by pushing the slave cylinder in and out and it helped some but i still can't get it to shift when running. does anyone have any input on this?

Take the master cylinder resevoir cap off and diaphram out and make sure there is fluid in it. Leave cam and diaphram off and have someone press in the slave cylinder rod about a inch or more and hold it. While they are holding it..replace the diaphram and resevoir cap. They can then let the slave cylinder rod loose. Then remove cap and be sure its full of fluid and leave cap and diaphram off. Have someone push in the slave rod about a inch and keep on repeating until there are no bubbles visible in the master cylinder resevoir.

When bleeding the slave cylinder..be sure that it remains below the height of the master cylinder..
