Clutch hydraulics drill mod??

OK, I've heard about the drill mod and even read a writeup on Install University. But I'm still kinda confused about what it does. I know it removes a restriction in the hydraulic line so it improves the flow. But, will that ultimately give you more bearing travel, meaning it will be easier to disengage the clutch every time? Is this safe, and does it actually work? The alternative is to get a McLeod adjustable master cylinder (which I will if I have to, but don't have the cash sitting around).
