Car doesn't shift at WOT

I have a 99 Firebird 3.8 with the A4

When I cruz and keep it easy it shifts fine, but the whole car feels like it is working way to hard. At WOT is just revs up, and there is almost no power to the wheels, untill I let off the gas then it seem to "catch" and slowly accelerate. Right before it shifts, I get a quick ticking followed by a clanking, then I **** myself at the horrid sound and hobbled home.

They car runs a little ruougher, and the exhuast is a little louder. I had a small clank at idle about a month ago, but it when away. I figured it was the cat, and I was trying to save some money up to get it fixed. Could a really clogged cat cause this, BTW the cat looks normall, and when I bang on it I do get a very small rattle, but it might be the type of thing that you only hear when you are looking for it. And I could have a clogged cat, along with Trans issues.

These two topics from cv6.com are the same probelem, but they didn't give me a real good answer.

Car goes to the shop tomarrow, what do yall think.

UPDATE: I went back out to the car and ran some diagnostics acording to the Service Manual, I put it in Drive appied the Ebrake and foot brake and brought up the RPMS to about 1500. I can hear a small whine, and a deep but light high cylce thud. Also right after I let off the sustained rev at 1500-2000, the car bogs down and I lose Voltage, but that is only on the rpm drop, then when it get back to idle, everything is ok. This only happens in drive, when it is in park there seems to be no problem reving.

When you went WOT did the car just rev to the rev limiter and not shift? Did it happen to have any intake backfiring when you were at WOT reving high? Just curious.
