Can't shift into any gears after new clutch/trans install
Can't shift into any gears after clutch/trans install...PLEASE HELP!
UPDATE!!!
Got some new/important stuff which may help.
I blead all the air out of the system w/ a mighty vac. I also took off the housing around the slave cylinder and just bolted the slave up w/ out it so we could watch it go in/out and move the fork. When someone pushes in/out on the clutch the slave pushes in about 3/4" on the fork which in turn moves as well. So that seems to be working fine. I am positive that the fork is aligned on the t/o bearing fine. I can pop it in & out and its noticible when it pops onto the t/o bearings.
TESTING:
When the car is off you can just about go into almost all the gears. When its on you can get into 1st and 4th which you have to push on a little harder to get in but they go in. Now heres the interesting parts. When you put it in gear w/ the car running and the clutch is fully pushed in the back wheels spin, but if you go on the brakes a little they stop and the engine doesnt die.
If you let the clutch out while its in gear and put hte brakes on the engine wants to die like it should.
So it seems like the disc is almost a little too fat or the pp is not being pulled far enough.
Should I just go out and try to drive it? And maby the clutch disc will wear down 1 cm and everything will be fine? Or will that damage my trans and stuff to much?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just put in new LT4 PP/TO bearing, mccleod single disc and rebuilt trans from t56rebuilds.com along w/ hurst comp plus shifter. When the car is off I can shift into most gears, like 1st,3rd,and 4th. 2nd I cant for some reason and 5th and 6th are hard too when the cars off.
When I turn it on I cant shift into anything, every gear is too hard.
Do I need to bleed the hydraulics? I can't see why since I didnt open any lines per say, just unbolted the slave and that pin thing came out which I compressed to bolt the slave back in. The clutch peddle does have pressure and feels like it used to.
One thing I noticed when putting hte clutch fork on the t/o bearing was that the LT4 t/o bearing was squared so I rotated the t/o bearing order for the clutch fork to properlly go around it. Maby I could have done that wrong, dunno.
Any things I can test to narrow stuff down.

Re: Can't shift into any gears after new clutch/trans install
ohh yeah I thought id add this because it may be important. There is that plastic cap on the slave cylinder w/ that plastic strap coming off of it and then there is another plastic strap which comes off of the body of the slave, where those two plastic straps suppose to be connected? What is the purpost of hte plastic strap which is molded to the top cap of the slave and connects back to the body of the slave cylinder? I just installed the slave anyways because I didnt think that plastic thing mattered.
Re: Can't shift into any gears after new clutch/trans install
maybe the clutch is staying engaged (sp?) you could put the rear tires up, put the shifter in first, have the pedal down, and start the car. if the tires are moving, its probably engaged

Re: Can't shift into any gears after new clutch/trans install
I've never worked on M6 4th Gen F-bodies, but on older cars the clutch disc could be installed two ways. One way was wrong, the hub of the disc would push against the crankshaft. Just a thought.
