Hi , me and some friends are currently rebuilding my rearend its all set to go except out dial indicator hasnt come in yet. Im trying to figure out before it gets here , I cant get a consistent answer from install articles so I thought Id ask you guys. What is the backlash range on a 97 camaro z28's rear. We used the pinion shims from the old pinion so that shouldnt have changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im installing motive performance 3.73's in there.

With my Strange gears they call for .008 to .012 backlash. I set mine at .010 and it was quiet as can be. Different brand gears call for different backlash.

 

I agree with the above.. however, I believe a new gear set will require new pinion shims.. each ring and pinion is jsut a little different..

 

well we got it back together , we went with the service manual recommendations .05 - .09 . We set it to .06 . Its going back in tonight , wish me luck !!!!
