He must be refering to the stoppers that are in the shifter.

It's unwise and unneccesary to adjust them with the T56.
The six speed has built in stoppers and if you shorten the shifter's stops too much then you can pop out of gear.

It's best to use the shifters stoppers as a backup - when adjusting, allow the tranny to stop the shifter and turn the screws to match.

to adjust the shifter points you have to get to the shifter stopper adj. bolts on the front and back of the base of the shifter, if it is the adj. hurst shifter (not all are adjustable). then loosen them up and shift into first. the trans will stop the shifter and after it does adjust the bolts on the shifter to stop the shifter so that the stops on the shifter stop it just before the trans stops do. this keeps you from overshifting and damaging the trans when you just throw it into gear hard.
