A4 to M6

I'm hoping that you'll aid me in my dilemma. I own a '94 Trans AM GT that currently has a 4L60E tranny in need of a rebuild (stopped shifting beyond 2nd). I have toyed with the idea of converting my 4L60E to a T5 (which I've heard is one of the better manual transmissions). Would you'll recommend a change and what do I risk making such a conversion?

You mean a T56? The T5 is a 5-speed for the V6 F-body, the T56 is the 6-speed for all the V8's. Use the search option at the top, many owners on this forum have done the T56 swap. I did it myself and can say it is my favorite mod.

If anyone planning to do the swap has to pass an e-test, I can save you a pile of grief. Do not connect up the wires to enable the hatch. If you do, it tells the car it's in park or neutral and as a result doesn't call for the EGR valve to open and you fail the e-test.

Right. You need to wire up the hatch release differently, and it's actually very easy. Simply use an inline splice to wire the orange wire from the 6-pin A4 connector to the tan wire going the the e-brake switch in the center console. Then the hatch only works with the e-brake on, just like a stock M6 car.

Might be your shift solenoid

I had that problem in the 97 camaro at 140,00 miles I now have 160,000 running like a champ. It would go to 2nd then it would start redlining and would shift past 2nd. GM revised the Shift solenoid from what a tranny place told me. It cost total 50 or 100 bucks forgot. Punch is under 39 MPH and it shifts to 1st and fish tails everywhere and all you smell is burnt rubber mmmmmmmm
