My wife's Camaro keeps having problems shifting into 2nd and won't shift into 3rd. Could this be shift selinoid?

update (mechanic states its shifting from 1st to 3rd.)

It is possible that its a solenoid,but these 4l60e tranmissions are known for the 3-4 clutch packs burning up.How many miles are on the trans?What does the fluid look like?Will if shift if you manually shift it?

Won't shift manually into 2nd I was told by my mechanic today but going into 3rd and staying there until you slow down then drops to first the back to third again. Drops to 1st at 15 mph. The fluid is brown and stinks like its burnt. Its just not our year for cars.

Oh supposedly the tranny was newly rebuilt just before we bought the car 2 months ago. We've put 7000 miles roughly on her. The fluid was clean clean when we bought the car. I couldn't believe how red it was but clean looking. The speed sensor has gone out once and the dealership in Rogers AR(Kent Rylee) don't take you car there, had supposedly fixed the wiring but left it routed on the top of tranny where it was pinched when the tranny mount went last time. This time mount is fine but something wrong with the sensor I think. Correct me if I am wrong. I am new to these cars. What has caused the burnt fluid?

More than likely your transmission does need rebuilt or you should have your sensors double checked but sounds to me like your 3/4 clutch is goin out in it. Very common problem with these transmisisons... I had a similar issue and that was my issue reccomend putting a transcooler on it and running a additive to your trans fuild that helps keep the fluid level cooler. A lot of people say they have been rebuilt just to make a person more likely to purchase the car but it isn't the case most of the time. Sounds like all it had done was a transmission flush.

I agree ^^^,sounds like they just flushed it to sell it...and once you do that and have not kept on maintence its a given that it will start to fail..a external trans cooler is a must..I spent big money on a Performabuilt Level 2 4l60e and to keep the warranty valid you must use the trans cooler they send you..

I know have a guy that if you take the transmission out and have him rebuilt it he upgrades it all to racing parts and tests every sensor on it for around 500.00 not sure exactly what he charges other people he gives me a really good deal as i take him a transmission or two every year. I have romped on the transmissions straight after i have put them in and they are built to last. Very fast turn around time as well.... Don't know where your from though .....

yeah yours clutches are gone.

mine did the same thing, i just said screw it and bought another one off a buddy of mine who wrecked his 94 z28 a week ago, it was rebuilt 30k ago and shifted great, bought it for $150

i know it works as the car was still driveable after it was wrecked (hit in the ***)

and it went through all gears

My brother-in law thought he blew the trans in his mercedes,so his mechanic said he needed a new trans.All it did was buck like a bronco of and on.So he spent $3000. on a rebuilt trans,then,a week later the same thing happened.come to find out ,it was the cable(and some box on the trans outside)that needed replacing,and that was the fix.The mechanic charged him for that to.I say investagate the module on the outside of the trans first.My02Hope this helps.

Sounds a little like it could be a 2-4 band issue. You may be feeling a 1-3 shift. This will act like you're describing. What condition is the fluid in? Does it smell burnt, or look discolored? Does it have any codes? Does it make the 1-3 shift in the D or OD tange, or only manually?
