94 Z rear end disaster
94 Z rear end disaster
Well took it to my mechanic and he ended up messing things up bad. After the install i took it to Hoopers there well known for Diff's. They said my mechanic did it to tight the first time and too loose the second, dont know what that exactly means but now i have grinding noises and whine. My mechanic gave up working on it basically doesnt know how to fix it when he himself said its an easy ring and pinion swap. Took it to Hoopers they say it will cost 775.00 to fix it because they want to replace everything. So all this because i wanted to go from 3.42's to 4.10's does anyone know a good experienced diff person here in southern california close to the glendale area that i can take my car to and have them fix these issues? Ive given my mechanic plenty of chances to come through for me but he has let me down and says he will only split the costs to fix it. Basically took my car damaged it and said k take it to someone and pay 3 times as much to fix it, lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated please let me know
Have Hoopers do it. They know their stuff, and they have been around a long time. I would try and make that mechanic that screwed up your gears pay for it. Did you sign a release or anything before they started working on it? You might consider taking them to small claims or something.
Actually no, he in the end said he did not authorize his mechanic which is hes brother to do the work. After all the excuses he came up with that at the end, hoopers gave me a reciept after opening up the diff. they said exactly what the shell gas station mechanic did wrong and spoke to that mechanic saying you guys complely messed up on the install. The mechanic told me i will refund you your 300 and call it even im like so you take my car mess it up and then give back my money telling me go pay someone 3 times as much to fix my mess up, lol. So next week ill have to call him on thursday he says and see what he is going to do. This whole thing has been one big headache and i have to fix this before installing my headers and moving on to nitrous.
Ive taken my cars to hoopers 6 times before and never had an issue with them although they do like to advice doing extra work and ofcourse with that comes and extra charge. Cant say much about it because they do a good job in the end and all is well, just pricey. When it comes time again i will take it back to hoopers and have them do it again and do it right but my mechanic is like im not paying 775 to get it fixed so i dont know what to do ive already complained to BBB but he says he doesnt give a shi*t so dont know what else to do, kinda dont want to go to court i didnt get a reciept for the work although it might not matter since they called hoopers asking advice on how to install my diff and hoopers said they messed up so that would be good enough proof they worked on my car but then again i dont like taken people to court ill give him another chance and see what he does.

That really sucks. But if you can find the time, I would definitely take them to court. They should pay for everything they broke. I'd file a complaint with the corporate office at least, just to get it on record. If the BBB won't do anything, get some free legal advice and see if you can go after them.
Personally, I would have never trusted a gas station with a gear install in the first place.

Well spoke to hoopers and they comfirmed moe at the gas station messed up badly on the install and i asked moe to call them so he can hear it directly from hoopers themselves. Dave at hoopers told them this is what you exactly did that messed up the differential and it will cost 775.00 to fix it. Moe now says he never authorized steve the mechanic to work on my car he doesnt know why he worked on the car and all he will do for me is pay for half of the 775.00 take it or leave it, regardless of what hoopers says.
I dont know what to do ive filed a complaint through BBB and comsumer affairs.com but finding the time to go to court is hard. I dont have a reciept from moe mainly we deal in cash and im on my way but in this case he ended up calling Hoopers asking how to install my rear end as he was working on the car so i have proof from hoopers he worked on my car and moe contacted hoopers twice during the install to get specs on how to do the install which i had no idea. Funny thing is Moe told me to take it to Hoopers to get a second opinion and the verdict was he messed up and just isnt owning up to it. I feel like he is completly taking advantage of me and saying to me im not in the buisness of loosing money, im like as long as your mechanic keeps messing up like the way he does you will always find yourself saying im not in the buisness of loosing money to many customers.
