9" Direct Bolt in

Are there any companies out there that sell a direct 9" bolt in for 93-97 f bodies? Is there a clearance issue with the housing? Is it just better off getting a built 12 bolt, what are they rated at for hp/torque?

Moser and Currie make direct bolt-in 9-inch axle assemblies for the 4th Gens. The only minor clearance issue will be the torque arm. The 9-inch offsets it a little more toward the drivers side, and can require a little hammer work on the tunnel. You may also need a 9-inch specific torque arm... I know Spohn now includes two different sets of bolt holes on the differentail end of his TA assembly, one set for the 10/12-bolts and one set for the 9-inch.

The 9-inch will cost you about 3% added drive-train loss over the 12-bolt. The pinion shaft is located a little lower, increasing the driveshaft offset. From my experience, the 12-bolts are fine up to about 950-1,000HP.

Hey Fred.... I was looking at the Moser 12 inch. I notice it looks like everything is like Ala Carte. I was wondering what should I ask for with the 12 bolt?? Just tell them I want a complete rear end? Or is there some stuff I want in there and some I don't really need?

I blew my rearend out completely on friday. Driveshaft is spinning wheels are not moving. 12 bolt sounds great right about now man. Good news is im gonna get 3.73's and tuning to match em so my car will be better than ever when I get it fixed .

That's why I like the Strange 12-bolt.... everything you need comes with it.

For the Moser, get the 33-spline axles, c-clip eliminators, ABS if you want to keep it, aluminum cover with bearing pre-load bolts, a 1350 pinion yoke. Anything over 500HP get the HD posi.

All of that (except ABS and HD posi), plus assembly and dyno run-in, cross-over u-joint and no need to alter the DS length, or to get different sway bar brackets is "standard" with the Strange.

Thanks Fred.....I'll look into them. The Strange one that is.

Someone needs to give the 9 inch its props too. It is stronger, it has bolt in axles so you never have to worry about C-clips or eliminating them. They also are a front loader gear set. So in reality you could have 2 gear setups and change gear ratios in about 45 minutes. I have done it. Then figure in the multitude of different gear sets you can use, unlike the standard 12 bolt GM sets. Last but not least, I hear of broken 12 bolts all the time, yet to hear of a broken 9 inch.
