8.8 Ford Rearend in 4th Gen F-bodies?
Anyone know any companies that are selling bolt-in Ford 8.8's? I've heard they're cheaper than the 12 bolts and 9" fords, and almost as strong when built with 31+ spline axles & HD posi units. Anybody heard anything about these or know anyone with first hand experience with them? Thanks.

So, no one really answered the question about whether the 8.8 was almost as strong as a 12 bolt or 9 inch.
Triple G said he saw a guy break an 8.8 at the track, but was that a stock 8.8?
Are the built 8.8s as stong as a 12 bolt or 9?

No, the 8.8 isn't as strong as a 12-bolt or 9". It is, however, much stronger than the 7.625" 10-bolt we have. The company doing the 8.8 4th gen rear wants quite a bit for it. Honestly, for the price, you're better off w/ a 12-bolt. I don't think it'd be that difficult to fab an 8.8 yourself if you've got access to a welder (and know how to use it).

That link of the company that sells the 8.8's is pretty expensive. I heard from a friend of mine they were around 1600 bucks with the good stuff, but I'm not sure what company that is. I'll keep looking around...I don't have the $ yet, but I may end up going with a strange 12 bolt set up or a 9" if I can find one with the good stuff (eaton posi, 31+ spline axles) for less than 2 grand. Anybody know of a cheap deal on 12 bolts or 9 inches anywhere?

If u want to fab up an 8.8 yourself, just get an 8.8 rear, weld a set of 7.5" axle tubs on it, aftermarket ring gear, axles, and posi-unit...Its also lighter than the 12 bolt/9"..I've seen mustang's runnin' in the 8's, on the 8.8...All they did to the rear was an aftermarket ring/pinion,locker...

another option to use would be the 8.5 out of G-bodys or B-bodys if you wanted to stay all GM, they are stout rears also and would be the same amount of work to get one to bolt up to an f-body
Adam, just post the link in here, as long as they arent advertising, it should be ok
