4th Gen SS- A4 to M6 Swap?
 

Hey guys, new to the site...I was wondering how hard it would be to turn my A4 SS into a M6 SS? How much time and money would it take? Would it be worth it? Thanks- joSShua

i would say it would be very expensive. I would say for all the parts you need would be close to 2000 plus installing them. If you can't do the install yourself i would say another 1k for the swap. These are just quick guesses. I would just buy a 6spd car if you really want one.

It will be costly. 2k is a decent estimate, although on the high side. Have fun with the auto until it breaks, and then do the swap, because at that point the $$ difference will be much smaller.

i think 2k is more than about right. i think a good 6spd goes for at least 1200 so then depending on clutch and pressure plate he chooses there is 4-500. Then flywheel, hydraulic lines and master cylinder pedals and other assorted crap. Probably pcm tuning. I think 2k is fair. Plus you alway need to figure high.

I did the swap to my 97. I got the tranny, clutch (SPEC), flywheel, presure plate, pedals, master/slave cylinder, shifter, bolts, tranny crossmember and console from a friend of mine's wrecked SS for 1500. There are places you can get all that for 1500 online less the console (good luck trying to find someone with JUST the top part of the console)

I had to buy the tranny connections, a new crossmember (was bent an inch from the accident, but you couldn't tell by looking at it) a new throwout bearing, and a new adjustable master cylinder (the stock one would just not work) ~ $300 approx

But I sold my old tranny on the site to a local guy for 500, so the swap only really costed me $1300 since I did all the work myself, and with some friends. WARNING: It was a pain in the ass.

But worth it :thumb:

yeah if you don't have the right tools (air tools are a god send) it can be a long project, and very trying on your patience.

It took us 4 days total to do the swap. We easily could have had it done in 2 if we had all the parts and didn't have to order anything and wait for it to come. Only time I used any kind of air tool was getting the flywheel off. It's not too bad, then again we put it in my 3rd gen, maybe that makes a difference? Good luck man!

yeah, after I got the auto tran off, I let a not too mechanically inclined friend try the flywheel bolts thinking to myself "that's hard to *uck up, i'll let him participate"

Sure enough he stripped 3 of them :eek:

Those took a while to get off...plus I had to drive to the dealer and get new ones.

Hardest part was definetly thr pedals, pain in my ass to get the master cylinder in by myself, I highly suggest 2 people
