I don't know why everyone gives the A4 such a bad rap. Mine has 110K on it right now and it is holding up fine. It is all in how you drive it and maintain it. If you are constantly going WOT everywhere then of coarse things are going to wear out quicker than a person that is driving the car like a grocery getter.
give it another 5- 10k more miles and youll be saying you spoke to soon.

hopefully not in your case you could be the one lucky man one this planet who gets to never have to pay for a 4l60e rebuild.

Wes is right I'm afraid. Mine has seemed to calm down some and is doing ok. But in the back of your mind you know that it's just a matter of time. Janny I wish that your tranny didn't have quite so many miles on it, I'd get it from you. As it is I can only come up with 300 plus shipping, so maybe I can scalp one off of Ebay :(

The same weak ass tranny is in my Silverado and I bought an extended warranty on it just for that reason. It is a good tranny, just not strong enough for heavy or high performance use. Sorry to say, but it is typical GM thinking. They always last at least for 36m/36,000 miles, so why improve it?

Since we're predicting the life of trannies here, I have 135k on mine..... how much longer do I have?

My crystal nitrous bottle is tellin me that yours is going to live past 150k but not much more after that... hell i dont know im just sayin i have yet to have one go more than 15k since a rebuild.

I am usually a cheapskate when it comes to upgrades, I built my own ghetto ram air and I went with a TCI stall cause I could not justify the price of a vigi or yank but I paid 750 bucks to have my 4L60E rebuilt which hurt my wallet since I am used to 350 turbo rebuilds costing me 200 bucks carryout.
I did alot of research on the OD trannies and the consensus I got is its the builder, find someone who knows what they are doing with them (which is hard to do believe it or not) and it will last.
I finally found a local shop with a great reputation of building 700R4s and 4L60Es lasting behind built motors including big blocks and I have been very happy with the work they did for me.

my car had 78k miles on it when i did heads/cam, my stock POS tranny my 356rwhp/349rwtq for about 10 seconds then i lost 3rd and 4th gear......
i bought a 2800 PI convertor and cmotorsports tranny and no problems so far :)

if you have a 4l60e and plan on performace upgrades. put a new tranny/TC on your list, you will be needing one.

ther is 4 problems with the 4l60e
3 of them can be fixed.

1 stock pressures to low, my tranny builder gives at least 250-275psi line pressure(mine peaks over 300psi) that couses othe strength problems that was overcome with hardend steel pumps and steel pistons

2 paramitors (sp) change cousing application force to decline

3 abrasives in the fluid wear or erode the valvebody cousind fluid to bleed off on the afl and shift valves futher lowering pressure and force(obviously) and cousing sloppy shifts

4 the 3-4 clutch is applied by a piston that is half the size of the 1st gear, wuch is why they always loose 3rd and 4th gear, unless you break a hard part.

it takes the fix of the first three to overcome #4, wich at this time nobodey make a piston drum assy. that will replace our little one.

also the reason you get so many miles on the original then the rebuild goes out before it gets dirty, becouse a rebuild doesnt fix the couse of the tranny going out in the firstplace. a new valvebode is a good idea, or what i did to mine ream the valves out and go with slightly large valve for a tight fit.

ive never had any beef with mine after 30+ low 12 sec runs and 12,000 street miles.

the part that normaly goes out at that mileage is the 3-4 clutch packs.

it is honestly hit or miss. if properly mantained, it will last. but the T-56 is an AWESOME tranny!!!!!!!!as long as u arent blowing shifts and grinding gears everytime out, u will be very happy with it.
