4l60e problems
 

ok my trans is giving me problems i have no lockup and if i go wide open throttle from a slow rolling start my rpms go to 7k so my guess is its slipping so my problem is the fact that I'm on a budget now first off let me say I'm no noob when it comes to turning wrenches been a mechanic my whole life but i have never rebuilt a trans before how hard is it to rebuild the 4l60 what would i need to replace is there a good manual i can buy on how to rebuild it any info would help greatly thank you

I would start with changing the filter. I had some of the same issues. IF the tranny is starving for fluid due to clogged filter, the converter will not lock.

filter was just changed about a month ago and fluid is still pink and does not smell burnt

The ATSG 4L60E manual would be a start. I will tell you up front that the 4L60E is NOT a beginners transmission. The ATSG manual will instruct you how to assemble it back to stock, but these transmissions need certain parts changed/updated/modified.

any suggestions on what to upgrade/replace as right now i cant afford to have it done and i need the car running my dad has rebuilt a few autos back in the 80's so he will be helping me i just need to know what common problems are and how i can correct them thank you
