4l60E interchange guide?

Hello everyone, I am a newbie on this forum.

I have a 95 3.4L with the flawed 4L60E tranny. No reverse.

Anyway I would rebuild it since I have some skills but it looks like the special tools are a little pricey for a one time build. (i can make or borrow most of the tools except the seal and bushing tools.)

So down to my question. Where can I find an interchange guide or a v8 late model 90 degree 4L60e to 95 30 degree V6 swap. I know the 90 degree trannies are much more abundant in junkyards and the later models have removable bell housings.

What else is different? Would I be better off putting 45 cal slugs into my head then try to use a different transmission?

I have to disassemble the transmission pretty far to fix the sun shell (I assume that is the problem) and would hate with 90K miles to just fix only the broken stuff just to have it fail in 25K miles since I didn't do a complete rebuild.

And yes I am on a tight budget otherwise I would just spend $500- whatever for a rebuilt.

Thanks JC

You're probably going to have to go the junkyard route if you're on a budget. On the other hand, tearing it down to the extent needed to get the sunshell out really isn't hard at all. If you want a visual aid, search "4L60E disassembly" on youtube. There's a video from a guy named Kevin (as evidenced by his username- I'm not posting the whole username.) Honestly, though, if it's your first time inside a 4L60E and you need the car roadworthy in short order, grab a junkyard unit to hold you over till you can afford a rebuild. As for interchange, I can't help you, as I don't know of any other RWD cars powered by a 60-degree V6, other than the F-bodies.

Thanks for the reply,
I have watched about 6 videos on the disassembly and rebuild of the 4L transmission. I can handle the rebuild except all the stupid plastic tools that cost $100+ each ... but ya know I do have a milling machine and some UHMW plastic LOL....

Seriously I am looking at junkyards but the seem to think that only a 95 will fit and they are hard to find because they break so easily...
It would be nice to find a guide that tells ya what to do to make a different
transmission fit. Kinda like the LS1 swap guides. Why else would the late model 4L60 have swappable bell housings?

If someone local to Fredericksburg VA. had the the tools I could borrow then that would be a different story.

I will keep looking for a junkyard tranny in the mean time...
Thanks again...
JC

Well... I got a nice rebuilt unit from jasper that had just got put into a car that was wrecked... excellent shape unit...

The only problem was the camaro I purchased it for has a blown engine as well....

So back to the drawing board... I have a nice rebuilt unit with one day of use and no car to put it in... sigh...
