2.73s or 3.23s for a th350?

thinking about what gears to use, the two transmissions of choice are a th350 or a 4l60e, behind a lt1 in a 79 firebird.

the car will be used for going to school/work around town daily driver. it wont be a quartermile terror, just a healthy street car that id like to thump some stangs and ricers with from street light to street light.

now im thinking the step up from gears wont really get me that much faster in terms of say finishing the quarter mile faster. it will go on the highway once a week or so.

going with th350 will be easier in terms of installation, the 4l60e will require wiring, new cross member, custom driveshaft, macgyvering of the speedo.

so would be better to go with a th350 and 2.73s?

a th350 has less gear in first than a 4l60e does. If you are going to run the th350, I would run a 3.42 at a minimum. You could get away with less if you are running the 4l60e. It wont hurt either to run different gears, but you'll see more of a gain if you match the gears to the tranny.
