12 bolt
moser or strange only 2 i would recomend i have a moser only thing i needed to do was swap rear u joint other than that 100% bolt on
|
i have strange and love it. i have heard good things about moser.
|
I have the strange and love it. Trash it pretty often at the track and its held like a champ other than the posi. I blew that apart pretty well. Upgraded to the HD posi unit and all has been well.
|
yeah, i went with the hd posi too, didnt want to have to mess with it ever again :)
|
thanks for the replies wehre did you guys get them and how much did it end up costing you?
|
When I got my Moser I had to take off the backing plates off my 10 bolt. Press on the bearings and install the axles.
When I helped my buddy install his Strange we just had to put the rotors and break calipers on. I think the Moser rearends are stronger than the Strange but the strange is more of a "bolt in" Also with the Moser rear's some guys have issues with the drive shaft needing shortened a bit. |
thanks for that info can anyone share their experience with having to shorten their driveshaft? How much does it have to be shortened?
Also with the Moser being a stronger unit how much are we talking not very much or is there a biger difference. I wam currently looking at the Moser unit from Spohn starts at $1860 after I get the options I want it will be about $2100 seems like a good price to me. |
Other than the larger diameter axle tubes, how is a Moser stronger than the Strange? In the end, they both use similar internals, and have options for various "strengths"..... splines, posi, etc.
And... how much "strength" do you need? I've seen the Strange stand up to 950flywheelHP in a 3,900# 9-second 30th SS convertible. Above that level, you'd be looking at a 9-inch. |
I was only asking about strength for the longevity factor. I am kind of hard on my car when I drive it and I want to make sure I won't have to buy any parts for this thing later on. I have heard horror stories of people having problems with certain manufacturers. Just wanted to make sure I get another one. I won't be seeing anymore than 650 flywheel hp. that is another reason why I don't even consider a 9". Just want my moneys worth.

Keep in mind when you do this, or any rear-end, that you want to be honest with yourself about whether you need race or street gears.
Street gears will stand up under racing conditions better than race gears will stand up under street conditions. Yes, that's a broad generalization, but the point is that race gears are softer and while they tolerate shock loads better than street gears, they wear out much faster. |
i have heard that the strange and the moser are very close in strenght. if you buy either rear and put the strength options into them, i cannot see you having to buy another one. if you want strange, buy direct.

do you also have to have a aftermarket PHB?

how fast are you going to be running?
Did you consider a 9"? I've read about way too many broken 12 bolts on ls1tech.com |
